Brighton & Hove Albion or Manchester City in Third Round

| Fixtures

Derby County will either be travelling to Brighton and Hove Albion or Manchester City for the third round of the Carling Cup competition.

Due to UEFA commitments, Manchester City have had to postpone their Carling Cup campaign so will be travelling to the Withdean Stadium on Wednesday 24th September to settle the score with Brighton & Hove.

Once that game is over, Derby will know whether to prepare for a trip up north or down south in an attempt to qualify for the fourth round of the Carling Cup.

Details of our game are still to be confirmed, including the actual date, but we do know the game will be away so one thing’s for sure - we certainly won’t be wearing our new third kit in all its blue and white stripy glory.

Paul Green heads in League Cup winner at Preston

| Fixtures

Preston 0 - Derby County 1

While our league results are seriously lacking, Derby County are on a winning streak with the Carling Cup this season.

Not content with knocking out Lincoln City in the first round, a confident Derby team travelled up to Preston last night and actually looked like a winning team.

Early on in the game, Przemyslaw Kazmierczak came close to scoring when he hit the bar with his pounding effort.

It was in the 40th minute when Paul Green connected with a cross from Jordan Stewart to score the only goal of the game, giving Derby a morale boosting win before our second visit up North this week to Barnsley.

David McGoldrick denies Derby another home win

| Fixtures

Derby County 0 Southampton 1

After a poor performance from the Rams, it was hardly a surprise when Southampton’s striker David McGoldrick knocked in the winner at Pride Park to deny Derby another home win.

There were numerous attempts from the travellers, most being stopped by Roy Carroll to keep the scores level for the first half of the game.

It’s coming close to an entire year since Derby won on home soil now, the last time beating Newcastle United 1-0 in the Premiership on 17th September 2007. We’ve got Barnsley away and Sheffield United at home before the year is out so there are opportunities to change things.

Don’t forget - the Derby v Sheffield United game will be on Sky Sports from 5pm so make sure you tune in to support the Rams on the 13th.

Paul Green equalizes for Derby at Bristol City

| Fixtures

Bristol City 1 - Derby County 1

Paul Green gave Derby their first point of the season after harsh words from Paul Jewell during the break seemed to lift spirits and determination in the team.

Nicky Maynard knocked in the opening goal for Bristol City during a first half which didn’t seem to have a Derby team present. Our performance was outshone by the home side and it didn’t seem to change much before the interval.

But after proper slating in the dressing room, the Rams came back out on the pitch and showed sheer determination. It wasn’t long before Paul Green finished off a fine opportunity to take Derby level but it didn’t stop there.

Both teams pushed hard in the second hard and it could have been anyone’s game. Considering Derby were playing last season’s play-off qualifiers, it shows what level of play we are capable of.

So far, this season, we have won one, lost one and drawn one. That’s a much better start than last season!

Nathan Ellington scores hat-trick to knock Lincoln City out the Carling Cup

| Fixtures

Nathan Ellington was hero of the day after a tantalising Carling League Cup clash against Lincoln city at Pride Park.

Lincoln City took the lead after 48 minutes when Ben Wright scored a header to take the travelers ahead and it wasn’t looking good for the Rams.

But in the 83rd minute, Nathan Ellington managed to fumble the equalizer past Robert Burch to take Derby level.

It was in added extra time when the Duke came out of himself and fired not one but two more past the Lincoln keeper to take Derby 3-1 in to the lead to win the game - Paul Jewell’s first win since taking the managerial role last season.

Let’s hope the loss at Doncaster last week was just a preliminary blip in our 2008/9 campaign and this is the start of something beautiful.

Derby 2008-2009 Fixtures Released

| Fixtures

This morning at 10am on the dot, the new fixtures for the 2008/9 season for most English and Scottish leagues were released.

Derby’s opening game is against Doncaster Rovers at home and the two games against bitter rivals Nottingham F*rest are obviously important fixtures to Derby fans.

As much as we would love to publish the entire fixture list right here, a small and rather annoying agency known as the Football DataCo who work very closely with the money-grabbing FA are now asking for nearly £22,500 for the rights to publish fixtures. How they can justify this cost for publicly available information is beyond us but there isn’t a lot we can do about it for the time-being.

For the full fixture list, check out either the official Derby County website (who don’t need to pay the premium as they are the official club website) or BBC Sport Online (who just use the license payers money instead).
