Brown Sacked!

It was announced late last night that Phil Brown had been sacked by Derby County FC after a poor run of results.

He has only been with the club since June 2005 but has racked up only seven wins against 14 draws and 12 losses. Things were starting to look up recently after his busy spell on the market, taking on the Brazilian Silva on a month loan, as well as signing ex-West Brom player Darren Moore.

Obviously, this wasn’t doing anything for the management of Derby when a meeting with chairman John Sleightholme ended in Brown walking out on is ear.

So who’s next? Who’s going to be our third manager in less than one year? Let us know what you think.

Sorting Out The Back

News has come in today that full-back Richard Jackson and mid-fielder Adam Bolder have signed up to the Rams for another two years.

Also in the news: we have taken on the Baggies’ defender Darren Moore for three and a half years so it looks like our back line will be quite comfortable for the forseeable future.

FA Cup 4th Round

After winning Saturday’s FA Cup 3rd round clash against fellow Championship team Burnley, the Rams were one of a few teams who got a secure entry in the draw for the 4th round this lunch time. Many Premiership teams struggled to even get a draw against some of their lower-league rivals but Derby actually got a well-deserved win in this year’s FA Cup tournament.

Thankfully, the draw has worked in our favour. We will be playing Colchester FC on the weekend of the 28/29th January 2006.

While the “U’s” haven’t lost at home since October, the history books show that the only time we have played them was back in the 1976/77 FA Cup when we drew 1-1 away in the first game then won 1-0 in the return leg. Maybe the teams have changed shape considerably in the last 30 years but our chances of a similar result don’t seem too unlikely and there is a good chance we may be making a 5th Round appearance this year.

The Latest on Loans

Blackstock & ThomeMr Brown has been busy setting up a few more loans this week with the introduction of two new players in the squad after Mounir El Hamdaoui was injured during last week’s game at Molineux.

He has managed to take on Dexter Blackstock from Southampton as well as Wigan’s defender Emerson Thome for a month. Both players should bring an air of relief to Pride Park when we take on QPR this week with two of our frst-team players watching from the sidelines.

Support the Academy - and get a FREE ticket!

Intrigued by the ramsavers.co.uk advert on the back of our team’s shirts, I visited the website to find that The Derbyshire are offering a Derby Rams account for all you Derby County fans.

The beauty of the account is that The Derbyshire promise to support The Derby County Academy, training more and more upcoming stars. So the more we save, the more they fund the Academy.

For the account holders, you are entitled to:

  • a reasonable interest rate, opening an account with just £1
  • 5% off merchandise in The Rams Superstore every Tuesday, and best of all…
  • a FREE match ticket to a 2005/6 home game
  • plus a few more added benefits

I will definitely be opening a new account next week when I get paid and I’m hoping many other Super Rams will be happy to do the same.

Fadiga, Whittingham, Kachloul & John

Phil Brown has been on a cheap shopping trip lately signing up at least three new players with a fourth possibly on the way.

The first signing is the Senegalese international, Khalilou Fadiga. He is on a one-month loan from Brown’s previous club Bolton Wanderers and should reinforce our midfield line-up. Not stopping there, Brown felt the need to take yet another midfielder on and snapped up Aston Villa’s Peter Whittingham on a 3-month loan.

With the loss of Rasiak, it seemed only right to try find a striker. Nothing has been signed yet but it looks like Coventry City’s Stern John will be moving North on loan. Not to mention, we’ve also take on former Aston Villa, Southampton and Livingston winger Hassan Kachloul on trial.

It looks like Brown is trying to build up a striking midfield alongside Idiakez and Peschi. Its not a bad idea - all these players are free so it’s money well spent!
