Derby County on Twitter

It’s quite evident that this website isn’t updated enough with the toils and tribulations of our beloved “Super” Rams. Time is a major factor in this and a previous call for contributors fell flat. So I had to come up with a different plan. Enter Twitter.

If you’ve not yet heard of Twitter, it is another social network, similar to Facebook, but with a different angle - it is all about your status. Twitter asks the question what are you doing now? and you respond, similar to the status feature of Facebook, with something like is writing on superrams.com.

One fundamental difference with Twitter though is the fact it is platform-independent - that is you can use the service from whatever device you prefer. You can use Twitter via SMS on your mobile, there is a mobile version of the website, you can even get it interacting with your IM client using the Jabber protocol (if you’ve got a Gmail account, that is also Jabber-enabed). Some nice developers from around the world have also created small applications to sit on your computer that are solely there for interacting with Twitter.

So there’s no denying the fact Twitter is a useful application but what the hell has all this got to do with Super Rams? Well, how about getting Derby County news direct to your mobile, as it happens, and all for free? That sounds good right? It’s quite easy to do - just follow these instructions:

  1. Sign up on Twitter using the relatively simple registration form
  2. Make sure you add your mobile details to your devices
  3. Pop on over to twitter.com/derbycounty and hit the Follow button
  4. Hit the Device Updates link and check the Device Buttons On radio button
  5. That’s it. Every time the news is updated on the BBC or Evening Telegraph, you will get a SMS alert.

Currently, you get an allowance of 250 text message updates a month but that should be plenty for the news alerts from Derby County.

Go and sign up - its free so what have you got to lose?

What Next for Super Rams?

What do YOU want? With the 2005/6 Season well and truly over, I will be attempting yet another redesign of the Super Rams website before the next season commences. The problem is, what shall I do?

The majority of the work involved will revolve around the content. I’ve realised that one of the most lacking features of the site is content and, as we all know, “Content Is King!”. I’ve got a few ideas of what I’m going to incorporate but I want to know what you, the fans, want.

What would make you come back to Super Rams? Do you want merchandise such as t-shirts or jumpers? What about stuff for your computer or mobile phone such as wallpapers or screensavers? How about a ringtone? Information wise, what would you like? Do you want a discussion forum to chat with other fans? What about interviews with the players (this could be a long shot)? Are any of you other Rams willing to write the occasional short match review?

One thing I will be implementing next season is a full log of Championship Tables so you can track the progress of Derby over the entire season. I will also be covering more topics outside of just match reports such as signings, releases, what’s happening with the new corporate board - is there anything I’m missing out on?

Tell me your thoughts. This site is for you, the Derby fans. I get nothing out of it apart from the occasional click through on the adverts (and that’s nothing to shout about!) - all I want is somewhere for Derby fans to hang out and find out everything they need to know. Without your input, it won’t exist. Post a comment below and let me know what you want.

Fixtures Released

The fixture lists were released yesterday for the majority of the English leagues (the Conference are holding out for a bit while they decide the fate of Cambridge United). With that, I have taken the liberty of bringing you the upcoming matches for Derby and created an entirely different page for them. I suggest you bookmark it for your own pleasure.

Derby County FC fixture list for 2005-2006

The one match that I will probably remember is the Plymouth away match as kick off is half an hour after I am married. Hopefully, I won’t miss much but at the same time a good result will make the day all the more memorable for me.

Winter Break

If you haven’t already noticed, there have been a serious lack of updates on Super Rams of late - the main reason for this is the poor server the site is hosted on. For the last 4 months, there have been several “upgrades” which have lost all the articles, reviews and links on Super Rams which have quite frankly p*ssed me off. So until I have moved servers, Super Rams is going to be a bit dead. Sorry to all those who actually spend their time viewing this site - it has been a real effort getting Super Rams online and it has yet to pay off. I will be changing servers some time in January so please bear with me. I’ll do my best to at least supply some links to match reviews on the BBC and DCFC.co.uk
